Walk into the inconspicious foodcourt residing in Peninsular Shopping Centre, one would inevitably be attracted by the bright yellow signage of Hwa Kee Chicken Rice with a lemon logo. Helmed by a couple, Frankie and Jane Yeow, have been selling chicken rice for 20 years. Unique to Hwa Kee, the couple adds a twist to this classic dish - Lemon Chicken Rice Burger! Crispy chicken cutlet, drizzled with special lemon sauce, is sandwiched between two slabs of chicken rice. Their Hainanese chicken rice comes in poached and soy sauce chicken, served with fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth and a variety of sauces and condiments. Each plate is served with homemade Achar, which is not commonly seen in most hawker stalls. For their complementary soup, the couple makes it a point to change the menu daily. The soup is not just plain chicken broth but simmered with vegetables like luffa and red dates. They would be most happy to serve if customers ask for a second helping.
