INGREDIENTS for kichadi
1. Rice - 1 Cup
2. Green Gram - 1/2 Cup
3. Beans - 1/2 Cup
4. Potatoes - 1/2 Cup
5. Onions - 1/2 Cup
6. Carrot - 1/2 Cup
7. Mint Leaves - 1/2 Cup
8. Green Chillies - 4
9. Curry Leaves - 1/2 Cup
10. Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 Teaspoon
11. Turmeric Powder - 1 Teaspoon
12. Salt - 1 1/2 Teaspoon

INGREDIENS for pachipulusu
1. Tamarind - 50 Grams
2. Onions - 1/2 Cup
3. Chilli Powder - 1 1/2 Teaspoon
4. Salt - 1 1/2 Teaspoon
5. Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 Teaspoon
6. Coriander Seeds Powder - 1 Teaspoon
7. Sugar or Jaggery - 1 Teaspoon
8. Tempering Seeds

LUNCH BOX 2 - KICHIDI PACHI PULUSU

All these vegetables are optional. Any vegetables of choice could be added.

Kichidi and pachipulusu are a very good combination.

Tamarind needs to be soaked first for 1/2 hour. Take rice and green gram in a bowl, wash them and soak in water.
Letís prepare kichadi first. Heat 2 tablespoons clarified butter (ghee). Here oil or clarified butter (ghee) could be used. Add whole garam masala. 4 cardamoms, 7-8 peppers, 5 cloves, 1/2 teaspoon shahjeera, 4-5 cinnamon stick pieces, 2 bay leaves and fry for 2 minutes. Add chopped onions and mix. Add diced green chillies, curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes. Add chopped beans, diced carrots, chopped potato pieces and fry. Any vegetables of choice could be added. Fry for 5 minutes on low flame. Close the lid. Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste and mix. Add mint leaves and mix. For 1 cup rice, we took 1/2 cup green gram - total 1 1/2 cup, add 3 cups water. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon salt or salt to taste. Let the water boil.

Letís prepare pachipulusu while the water boils. Juice the soaked tamarind and add water as desired. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder. Detailed recipe for pachipulusu will be given in the description box. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1 teaspoon sugar or jaggery and mix. Add 1/2 cup chopped onions and mix.

For kichadi, the water is boiling now. Add soaked rice, green gram and mix. Close the lid. Boil till the rice cooks completely.

Letís prepare tempering for pachipulusu in the meantime. Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a pan. Add 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, 2-3 dried chillies. As dried chillies start to change colour, add curry leaves and mix. Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder and cut off the stove. Add this tempering to the prepared tamarind juice mix. Pachipulusu is ready.

Stir rice in-between while cooking. After all the water boils away, close lid and cook for 10 more minutes. Kichidi is also ready now.

Put kichadi in one box and pachipulusu in one box. Put a side of mango pickle and pack the lunch box.
