Try this version of dal cooked in loads of butter and spices. Pair it with some steamed rice & enjoy a hearty meal.

MAKHANWALI DAL

Ingredients

3 tbsps butter + for garnish
¼ cup soaked and drained Bengal gram (chana dal)
¼ cup soaked and drained Split red lentils (masoor dal)
¼ cup soaked and drained Split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal)
¼ cup soaked and drained Split pigeon peas (toovar dal)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium tomato, chopped
½ tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tbsp ginger-garlic-green chili paste
1 cup water
Salt to taste
½ tsp Tata Sampann Turmeric Powder
½ tbsp chopped ginger
1 tbsp chopped garlic
¼ tsp asafoetida
½ tsp cumin seeds
2-3 green chillies, slit
Coriander sprig for garnish


Method

1. Transfer Bengal gram, red lentils, green gram , pigeon peas in a pressure cooker.
2. Add onion, tomato, fenugreek seeds, ginger-garlic- green chilli paste and 1 tbsp butter. Add 1 cup water and mix well.
3. Add salt, Tata Sampann Turmeric Powder and mix well.
4. Cover and cook on medium heat till the pressure is released 4 times. Open the lid once the pressure settles completely. Mash the dal well.
5. Heat remaining butter in a nonstick pan. Add ginger, garlic, asafoetida, cumin seeds and mix well. Sauté for 30 seconds.
6. Add green chillies and mix well. Sauté for a minute.
7. Add cooked dal and mix well. Cook for 4-5 minutes.
8. Transfer into a serving bowl. Place a blob of butter and serve hot garnished with coriander sprig.
