Meatballs & Dumplings 1930 Depression Era Recipe - Old Cookbook Show - Glen & Friends Cooking I know... this is called Meatballs & Dumplings, but it's more like a cross between a Hamburg Steak Recipe, and a Salisbury Steak Recipe. It is a hearty filling meal that will extend your food budget in trying times.Meatball Ingredients:1 pound ground beef1 onion, minced2 Tbsp flourSalt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup milk1 onion, sliced2-3 carrots, sliced lengthwise1 rib celery, choppedButter / oil for fryingDumplings Ingredients:1 cup flour2 tsp baking powder1/3 tsp salt½ Tbsp butter½ cup milk +Method:Mix meat, minced onion, salt, pepper, flour and milk.Shape into patties.In a heavy 9-10” pan with a lid - heat some butter and sear the patties on both sides.Remove patties to a plate, and quickly fry off the other sliced onion.Place the patties back into the pan, and pour in enough water to cover.Put on the lid and simmer ½ hour.Make the Dumpling dough, by combining all of the ingredients.Dough should be slightly tacky, so adjust flour or milk to compensate.After ½ hour, add the carrot and celery to pan with the meat, and cook until veg is tender.Remove patties and veg to a serving platter, and drop walnut sized balls of dumpling dough into the gravy.Cover and boil 10 minutes.Serve patties and dumplings with the pan gravy and veg.#GlenAndFriendsCookingGlen & Friends Cooking,mince meat and dumplings,dumplings and gravy recipe,how to make dumplings and gravy,salisbury steak,hamburg steak recipe,depression cooking poor mans meal,depression cooking,depression era cooking tips,glen and friends cooking depression era,how to make smothered hamburgers,how to cook smothered hamburgers,depression era cooking,great depression cooking,how to make salisbury steak,ground beef recipes for dinner,depression era recipes
