This spicy and tangy milagu kulambhu is a traditional tamarind based gravy prepared using black pepper corns. You can prepare this with or without garlic cloves.It helps soothe a cold or cough.Milagu kumabhu, jeera rasam and sutra appalam is the perfect meal on the winter days.
You can store this in refrigerator for 2 weeks.

Ingredients:
Black pepper- 1.5 tsp
Toordal- 1.5 tsp
Salt- As needed
Hing- A pinch
Curry leaves- 10
Red chillies- 3 or 4
Uraddal- 1.5 tsp
Garlic- 7 (optional)
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Sesame oil- 3 tsp
Tamarind water- 2.5 cups

Directions:
1.Heat 1 tsp sesame oil. Roast toordal, Uraddal, whole black pepper, red chillies and curry leaves until dal turn golden brown.
2.Grind this into a smooth paste using little water.
3. Take 2.5 cups of tamarind water in a vessel. Add salt, hing, curry leaves and the ground paste to the tamarind water.Mix everything well.
4. Heat 2 tsp sesame oil .Add mustard seeds and garlic cloves . Saute for 2 minutes.Than add the prepared tamarind paste. Let it boil over medium flame.
5. Switch off the heat when the gravy becomes thick.
Milagu kulambhu is ready!!. Enjoy!!
