Moong dal halwa is one of the most decadent and delicious halwas out there but it does take a lot of time to make but if you have a premix ready then it can be made quickly and without any fuss!

MOONG DAL HALWA

Ingredients

3 cups split skinless green gram (moong dal)
½ cup ghee
6 tbsps chopped almonds
6 tbsps chopped cashew nuts
½ cup milk powder
½ tsp green cardamom powder
1½ cups powdered sugar
A large pinch of saffron
Slivered pistachios for garnish

Method

1. Grind the moong dal to a coarse powder.
2. Heat a non-stick pan, add the coarse powder and roast till fragrant and golden brown. Make a well in the center and add ghee and add almond and cashew nuts and roast for a few seconds. Mix well and take the pan off the heat.
3. Transfer into bowl and allow to cool completely. Add milk powder, green cardamom powder and powdered sugar. Add saffron and mix well.
4. Transfer into an air tight jar and use up to 15 days.
5. For making the moong dal, take ½ cup premix in a microwave safe bowl, add ¾ cup hot water, cover with a lid and microwave on high for 2 minutes, mix and microwave again for 2-3 minutes.
6. Garnish with pistachios and serve.
