Mullu Murukku / Chakali

Murukku is a traditional snack made for special occasions. It can be served as an evening snack and also as side item with thali.
This is also called as Mullu muruku, Mullu Thenkuzal, Makizampoo and Muthusaram.

This South Indian savory is made from rice and lentil flour. It is then squeezed into a big swirl and deep fried in oil.
You can use store bought flour. The recipe will be the same.


Ingredients
Rice flour- 4 cups
Channadal flour- 1 cup
Moongdal flour- 1 cup
Butter- 4 tablespoons
Salt-As needed
Oil- For frying


Directions:
1.Rinse rice till you get clear water. Then soak it in water for 1 hour.
2.Spread it on a cotton cloth until it is dry.Grind it into a powder consistency.
3. Dry roast channadal and moongdal till it changes color. Grind them into a fine powder.
4. Sieve the flours for powder consistency.
5. Take 4 cups rice flour,1 cup channadal powder, 1 cup moongdal powder, 4 tablespoons butter and salt in a bowl.
6. Add water little at a time to make a soft and smooth dough.
7. Using one star mould, squeeze the dough into a big circle.
8. Heat oil over medium flame.Fry till it is crisp and golden brown in color.

Mullu Murukku is ready!!.
