A flavoursome chicken curry which is popular in every Bengali household and a must-try for all the chicken lovers!MURGIR JHOLIngredients750 grams chicken, cut into 2 inch pieces on the boneSalt to taste2 medium onions, sliced1½ tbsps chopped garlic1 tsp ginger paste2-3 green chillies, chopped½ cup yogurt1 tsp garam masala powder¼ tsp turmeric powder2 tsps red chilli powder2 tsps lemon juice¼ cup mustard oilJhol3 tbsps mustard oil2 medium potatoes, quartered1 bay leaf2-3 cloves3-4 green cardamoms6-8 black peppercorns1 inch cinnamon stick, broken2 large onions, slicedA pinch of sugar¼ tsp turmeric powderSalt to taste1 tbsp chopped fresh coriander leavesTo serveSteamed riceMethod1. Take chicken in a large bowl, add salt, sliced onion, garlic ginger paste, green chillies, yogurt, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, lemon juice and mustard oil and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 45 minutes. 2. For the jhol, heat mustard oil in a non-stick pan, add potatoes and sauté till they turn golden brown. Drain them on a plate and set aside until in use.3. Heat the mustard oil remaining the pan, add bay leaf, cloves, green cardamoms, black peppercorns, and cinnamon stick and sauté till fragrant.4. Add onions, mix and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add sugar, mix and sauté till the onions turn golden brown.5. Add turmeric powder, mix and add the marinated chicken, sauté on high heat for 3-4 minutes. Cook further for 8-10 minutes.6. Add fried potatoes, 1 cup hot water, adjust salt, and mix well. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes. 7. Add coriander leaves, mix and take the pan off the heat.
