Pie From Another Time... 1930s Dixie Pie RecipeI know that in 2023 the title of this pie might be a little triggering for some people - I get it. But sometimes history can be messy and maddening, and you can't ignore that this pie existed.Dixie PiePIE CRUST1 cup Town Crier Flour1/3 cup lard teaspoon salt2 tablespoons boiling waterFILLING1 cup sugar2 tablespoons Milk cup butter cup nuts2 egg whites2 egg yolks1 cup datesCRUST:Add salt to flour. Cut in fat. Add boiling water. Mix until smooth.Chill thoroughly. Roll out and fit to pie pan.FILLING:Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks one at a time. Add milk.Then dates and nuts. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Spread evenly in pastry lined pie pan. Bake at first in a hot oven (450 degrees F.) 10 minutes. Decrease heat to moderate (350 degrees F.) for remainder of time, about 30 minutes, until crust and filling are golden brown.
