Daal Chawal

Ingredients for Daal Preparation:
Oil 3 tbsp
Onion (chopped) 1 cup
Garlic (chopped) 1 tbsp
Green chili (sliced) 2 tbsp
Tomato (chopped) 1 cup
Red chili powder 1 tbsp.
Coriander powder 1 tbsp
Cumin powder 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp
Red lentil (soaked) 2 cups
Yellow lentil (soaked) 2 cups
Water 4-5 cups
Garam masala powder 1 tbsp

Ingredients for Tadka Preparation:
Oil 1/2 cup
Garlic cloves (sliced) 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Green chili (sliced) 2-3
Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
Whole red chilies 8-10
Bay leaves 1-2
Garam masala powder 1 tbsp

Ingredients for Rice Preparation:
Water 5-6 cups
Salt 1 tbsp
Basmati rice (soaked) 3 cups

Directions for Daal Preparation:
1. In a pot heat oil and add onion. Cook for a minute.
2. Add garlic, green chilies, tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt and cook for a few seconds.
3. Add red lentil and yellow lentil and mix it well.
4. Add water and cook for 2-3 mins. Now cover and cook for 15-20 mins or until fully done.
Directions for Tadka Preparation:
5. In a pan heat oil and add garlic, mustard seeds, green chilies, cumin seeds, whole red chilies, bay leaves and cook for 1-2 mins.
6. Pour this tadka over prepared daal. Add garam masala powder on daal and mix it well. Set aside.
Directions for Rice Preparation:
7. In a pot heat water and add salt. Mix it well.
8. Add rice and cook until rice are fully done
9. Your Daal Chawal are ready. Serve and enjoy.
