Trips to Thailand can be great, don't become a statistic on your Thailand travel. Ensure your travel insurance covers you on motorcycles, to avoid Thailand tourist trouble on your holidays. Some tips on how to stay safe:
1) Check your travel insurance covers motor scooter travel.
2) To be legal you need a drivers license AND an international drivers license.
3) Thai roads can be crazy. Expect the unexpected.
4) Inspect motor scooters & bikes before taking them and note or photograph existing damage or scratches.
5) Wear a helmet and appropriate clothes (long sleeves, pants, shoes) to minimise injuries in case of accidents.
6) Carry a photocopy of your passport at all times.
7) Drive carefully and defensively.
8) Use mirrors and indicators.
9) In case of accident, get to a medical clinic ASAP to get wounds cleaned (it's cheap).
10) Have fun!
