7 simple money tips for travel - sharkbites S1 EP5 all day i eat like a shark

as you may know travel is one of my favorite things in life and i'll be sharing some of my tips in the near future, but meanwhile here are some that'll save you some money, especially if your next trip is overseas!

#1 to get a better exchange rate, use an ATM instead of a money exchange counter

#2 avoid getting charged ATM fees!
-Schwab and Fidelity bank both reimburse when you use their ATM cards at in network banks which are free with their cash accounts!

#3 use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, there are many to choose from in this category so pick one with a bonus or rewards (points or cash back) that you think will meet your travel needs.

#4 use the local currency when paying with your credit card. sometimes, you'll be giving the credit card machine which has the option of USD or local currency, always choose local currency to get the better exchange rate

#5 pay attention to locals and how much they pay, or ask one before purchasing something! this'll give you an idea of how much goods and services should cost (so you don't get ripped off!!)

#6 use a FREE city tour, most major tourist cities have FREE walking tours, with the expectation that you'll tip the tour leader after it ends. cheaper than paying for a tour outright and a good way to get a local perspective on a new city.

#7 more so for non-English speaking countries (e.g. SE Asia), avoid touristy restaurants e.g. English menus which cater to foreigners and entail higher prices. if you go to where the locals eat (sometimes no menu, or local language menu only) the prices tend to be lower and your experience may be much more authentic and memorable.
