A special Sravu Curry or Shark curry is a delightful and tasty Kerala style recipe.SRAVU CURRYIngredients2 medium sharks (sravu), peeled and cut into 2 inch pieces2 tbsps coconut oil4-5 kudampuli, soaked 1 cup water½ tsp turmeric powderMasala1 cup scraped fresh coconut1 tbsp coriander seeds8-10 black peppercorns15-20 madras onions4-5 dried red chillies2 tbsps coconut oil1 tbsp finely chopped garlic1 tbsp finely chopped ginger2-3 green chillies, slit10-15 curry leaves1 tsp garam masala powderSalt to tasteTo serveSteamed matta rice as requiredMethod1. Heat coconut oil in an earthen vessel. Add shark pieces and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes. 2. Add the kadampuli along with the water and mix well. Add ½ cup water, mix and cook on low heat for 6-8 minutes. 3. Meanwhile, to make the masala, dry roast the coconut, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, and madras onions in a pan till they turn brown. 4. Add dried red chillies and sauté for a few seconds. Take the pan off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.5. Transfer the roasted spices in a grinder jar, add ½ cup water and grind to a fine paste.6. Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add garlic, ginger, and green chillies and sauté for 1 minute. 7. Add the ground paste, mix and sauté till oil separates. Add 1½ cups water and mix well Continue to cook for 2-3 minutes. 8. Stir in the turmeric powder in the shark mixture and cook for a minute. Transfer this into the masala and mix well. 9. Add garam masala powder, salt and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. 10. Transfer into a serving bowl. Serve hot with matta rice.
