Its of course a #traditional #healthy recipe of #Sambar Tomato Sambar from my MIL #MeenamaTomato Sambar is not only easy to make its delicious too!Sambar Tomato SambarIngredients for Tomato Sambar:Cherry tomatoes - 200 gms or medium tomatoes 5 or 6Tamarind - 1 lemon sizedGreen chillies - 1 bigAny brand sambar powder - 1 tspTur dal - 1 cupOil - as reqd Ghee - as reqd Coconut powder or freshly grated coconut - 2 tspMustard seeds - 1 tspFenugreek seeds - 1 tspAsaefotida - tspSalt to tasteCurry leaves - optional Ingredients for grinding for Tomato Sambar:Chana dal - 1 tspCoriander seeds - 1 tbspRed chillies - 5 or 6Method for the grinding for Tomato Sambar:In 1 tsp oil, roast chana dal, coriander seeds and red chillies till goldenGrind into a smooth powderKeep asideMethod for making Tomato Sambar:Pressure cook 1 cup Tur dal till soft and keep asideSoak tamarind in 2 cups of water and extract the tamarind water and keep asideHeat some oil and ghee in a wide pan or kadaiSplutter mustard seedAdd fenugreek seeds and let them turn goldenNow add the Cherry tomatoes or cut medium sized tomatoesAdd slit green chilliesSaut everything over medium flameAdd the tamarind waterAdd sambar powder and saltAllow everything to cook together over medium flameWhen the raw smell of tamarind and sambar powder disappears add the cooked Tur dalLet everything blend together Now add the roasted and ground mix that we madeAllow everything to cook together over medium flame Meanwhile heat 1 tsp of ghee in a small panFry fresh coconut or coconut powder in the gheeAdd the ghee fried coconut to the boiling Tomato SambarAdd asaefotida Adjust consistency of Tomato Sambar by adding boiling waterGarnish with curry leavesSavour the delicious Tomato Sambar with steamed rice and ghee or with crunchy Dosa or steaming Idlis or Vadas
