A popular Gujarati recipe – a khichdi made more tasty with a flavourful tempering.WAGHRARELELI (MASALA) KHICHDIIngredients 1 cup Basmati rice, soaked and drained ½ cup split skinless green gram (dhuli moong dal), soaked and drained1½ tablespoons ghee + for garnishing 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 4-5 cloves1 inch cinnamon stick 2-3 dried red chillies + for garnishing ¼ teaspoon asafoetida (hing)1 teaspoon red chilli powder ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder 1 teaspoon garam masala powder A pinch of sugar Salt to taste 8-10 peanuts Method 1. Heat ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add mustard seeds, cloves, cinnamon, dried chillies and asafoetida. 2. Add rice and skinless green gram and mix well. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, sugar, salt and peanuts. Add 2 cups water and mix well. Cover and cook till done. 3. Serve hot garnished with ghee and dried chillies.
