#OilfreeBataraVadas!! #BatataVada #SujanFunKitchen Can anyone guess how this was made?! Not deep fried…. My family, especially my brother would love it! In fact my kitchen is beaming with relief because the kitchen is devoid of angry fumes of deep-fried oil!! Such a simple method!
Here comes the recipe of Batata Vada!
1. Potato – 1/2 kg

2. Big onions – 1

3. Green chilies – 2

4. Ginger – to taste

5. Cumin seeds – 1tsp

6. Asaefotida – to taste

7. Turmeric powder – to taste

8. Coriander leaves – 1 bunch

9. Lemon juice – 1tsp

19. Oil to cook

20. Salt to taste

Ingredients for the batter:

1. Besan/Chick pea flour – 1 cup

2. Red chili powder – to taste

3. Asaefotida – to taste

4. Salt- to taste

5. Oil – 1 tbsp

6. Eno fruit salt – 1/4 tsp

Method for the stuffing:

1. Boil the potatoes, peel, mash roughly and keep aside

2. Chop the onions, green chilies, coriander leaves and ginger finely

3. Now, heat the kadai/pan, add few teaspoonful of oil

4. To the hot oil, add cumin seeds and allow to splutter

5. Now add the chopped green chilies, ginger and onions and stir fry till onions are translucent

6. Then add the mashed potatoes and cook everything together

7. Add red chili powder and salt and toss together

8. Now it’s time to add a dash of lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves

9. Allow to cool a bit and shape into small balls

Method for the batter:

1. Add the chili powder, salt, asaefotida, oil and salt to the besan or chick pea flour

2. Now add water slowly to make a smooth batter that coats the back of the spoon

3. Then add eno fruit salt and briskly mix till the batter is frothy

Method to make Batata Vadas:

1. Heat an Appam maker or a doughnut maker and add few drops of oil in each slot

2. Dip each ball of the stuffing into the besan batter and place into the Appam maker slots or doughnut maker slots

3. Cover and cook over dim flame till golden on one side

4. Flip and cook other side too by drizzling few more drops of oil

5. Enjoy the heavenly taste of the Batata Vadas without oil or guilt!
