Pearl onions are better than big onions due to nutritional values.My mom makes this chutney very often.This spicy chutney is very easy to make and goes well with all tiffin varieties especially with dosa ,Uthappam and Aaappam.It requires only a few ingredients and can be down within 10 minutes.
Ingredients:
Pearl onion- 250 gms
Red chillies- 8
Uraddal- 1 tsp
Tamarind- A small piece,
Salt- As needed
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Sesame oil- 4 tsp
Directions:
1. Saute pearl onions and red chillies in 2 tsp sesame oil until the onions are cooked.
2. Grind the sautéed onions, red chillies, salt and tamarind to a coarse paste.
3.Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds.When I starts to splutter, add uraddal and roast until dal turn golden brown.
3. Then add ground onion paste and sauté for another 2-3 minutes. Then switch off the heat.
Chutney is ready!!
