Natural Easter Egg Dye

Ingredients:
2 large beets, rinsed and chopped
1 head cabbage, chopped
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
4 Tbsp. ground turmeric
2 Tbsp. white vinegar for every 4 cups of water
4 cups of water for every color
panty hose, cut off toe portion
parsley, cilantro, flowers or whatever you want to decorate with.

Directions:

Place eggs in cold water (enough to cover eggs) over high heat. Once they come to a full boil, cover and turn off the heat let sit for 17 to 18 minutes.

Pour off the hot water and replace with cold water and ice to stop the cooking process. Once cool place the eggs back in the refrigerator until needed.

Place the beets in a pot of 4 cups of water. Do the same with the cabbage and blueberries for a blue color and turmeric for the yellow color. Keeping all separate.

Cover and simmer the colors on the stove for 35 minutes. Once done, pour the liquids through a strainer into separate bowls.

Add 2 Tbsp. each of white vinegar into each color and allow to cool until room temperature.

Now it's time to color. Place eggs directly into the colors and/or decorate with plant/herb leaves covered with panty hose.

Place the panty hose over the egg keeping the flower flat against the egg. Pull the hose tight and twist the end. Use a rubber band to secure the end. Snip off any excess pantyhose and place the egg in the dye.

Let eggs sit in the dye anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight. If you leave them overnight, they should be refrigerated.

Take the eggs out of the dye to dry on a rack. Blot the egg dry with paper towels and remove the hose and flower/leaves.

Once the eggs are completely dry you can rub and buff them with oil (like olive oil) to give them a nice sheen or glow.

Happy Easter!
