A tangy south Indian dal enriched with the goodness of cucumber tastes amazing. Serve it with some steaming hot rice to make it a heart-warming meal.CUCUMBER DALIngredients2 medium cucumber, peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces2 cups cooked pigeon peas (toor dal)2 tbsps oil½ mustard seeds½ tsp cumin seeds¼ tsp asafoetida (hing)1½ tbsps finely chopped garlic3-4 dried red chillies, broken2 green chillies, slit10-15 curry leaves 1 medium tomato, finely chopped¾ tsp red chilli powder½ tsp turmeric powder1 tsp coriander powder2 tsps sambhar masala1½ tbsps tamarind water Salt to taste2 tsps chopped jaggeryFresh coriander sprig for garnishSteamed rice to serveMethod1. Heat oil in an earthen pot. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add cumin seeds and let them change colour. 2. Add asafoetida, garlic, dried red chillies, green chillies and curry leaves and mix well. Cook till the garlic turns golden.3. Add tomato and cucumber and mix well. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes. 4. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and mix well. Cook for 1 minute. 5. Add sambhar masala and tamarind water and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. 6. Add salt, and jaggery and mix well.7. Stir in the cooked gram and 1 cup water and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. 8.
