Pour water to cover by 1 to 2 inches. Cook on high for 4 hours and test for doneness. The beans should be soft.Once they are soft add the salt and stir. Cook an additional 2 to 3 hours. Then remove the pieces of bacon and onion. If there is too much water in the beans, remove some as I did in the video so that the refried beans are not too soupy.Turn off the heat and mash the beans with a potato masher and serve.
