Ghugni, a cherished Bengali street food, is a simple yet tasty recipe you can try. Yellow peas is the main ingredient of the dish. Pressure cooked yellow peas are tempered with spices to get that chatpata flavour. To serve, it is simply placed in a small bowl and topped up with raw onions and chutney. You can now make this street style Ghugni at home, just by following this simple recipe.GHUGNIIngredients1 cup white peas, soakedSalt to taste½ tsp turmeric powder1 large potato, boiled2 tsps oil1 tsp cumin seeds1 medium onion chopped1 tbsp ginger garlic paste1 tsp red chilli powder3-4 green chillies2½ tsp bhaja masalaA pinch of sugar1 medium tomato choppedFor garnishFresh coconut, cut into thin stripsChopped coriander leavesLemon slicesMethod1. In a pressure cooker take white peas, add 2 to 2½ cups of water, turmeric powder and salt, mix well. Cover and cook for 3-4 whistles. 2. Take the potato and cut into small cubes and set aside.3. Heat oil in a nonstick pan add cumin seeds and once they change colour add onions and sauté till translucent.4. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add red chilli powder and saute for 2-3 minutes. 5. Add potatoes and mix well. Add the cooked peas and green chillies, mix well again.6. Add 1½ tsps bhaja masala, salt and sugar, mix well. Add tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes.7. Switch off the flame, add remaining bhaja masala, mix well.8.
