Indian Meatballs Mug Pie | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Pan fried meatballs, a spicy masala and plenty of cheese - loaded into cups and baked till the cheese melts.

INDIAN MEATBALL MUG PIE - (Serves - 4)

Ingredients

250 grams chicken mince
Naan dough as required
Salt to taste
2 teaspoons red chilli powder
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaves
1 tablespoon oil + for shallow-frying
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 medium onion, finely chopped
½ cup tomato puree
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
Grated mozzarella cheese as required
Butter for brushing

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180° C.
2. Combine chicken mince, salt, 1 teaspoon chilli powder, ½ teaspoon garam masala powder and coriander leaves in a bowl and mix well.
3. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into balls.
4. Heat some oil in a non-stick pan. Shallow-fry ball chicken balls from all sides till golden and half cooked. Drain on a plate.
5. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in the same non-stick pan. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Add onion and sauté till translucent.
6. Add tomato puree, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add remaining chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, remaining garam masala powder and sauté for 30 seconds.
7. Add 1 cup water, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add salt, mix and cook for 1-2 minutes.
8. Pour the cooked tomato mixture in individual ovenproof serving mugs. Put few meatballs on top and repeat the process till all ingredients are used. Put mozzarella cheese on top.
9. Roll out the dough to make a thin sheet, place an inverted medium sized bowl and cut into roundel.
10. Cover the prepared mug with the roundel and brush some butter on top.
11. Put the mug on a baking tray. Put the baking tray in preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.
12. Serve hot.
