Jain Idli Sandwich | Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana

Bread sandwiches with banana stuffing dipped into idli batter and steamed.

JAIN IDLI SANDWICH

Ingredients

Idli batter for coating
4-6 bread slices
2 medium raw bananas, boiled and mashed
1-2 green chillies, crushed
1 teaspoon sugar
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
Juice of ½ lemon
Green chutney as required
Jain Sichuan sauce as required

Method

1. Heat some water in a steamer.
2. Combine mashed bananas, green chillies, sugar, salt, garam masala powder, chopped coriander and lemon juice in a bowl and mix well.
3. Cut bread slices into 4 equal pieces. Spread green chutney on few of bread piece. Put some banana mixture on few bread slices and place it over chutney bread slice. Spread some Sichuan sauce on few bread slices and place it inverted over banana mixture bread slice. These are sandwiches.
4. Add salt to idli batter and mix well. Coat each sandwich with idli batter and place it on idli stand. Place the stands in preheated steamer, cover and steam till the batter is cooked.
5. Remove from heat and cool.
6. Diagonally cut the idli sandwiches. Brush some green chutney over a serving platter, place sandwiches and serve.

Preparation Time: 8-10 minutes
Cooking Time: 5-8 minutes
