Japan's Tsukiji Fish Market - Carving Out Tuna Eyeballs!

In this video, we continue to venture deep into the inner Tsukiji Fish Market, and capture a stall carving out fresh tuna eye directly from whole severed tuna heads. Tuna cheeks are also obtained to prepare delicious grilled dishes, along with the tuna collar (Hamachi Kama).

Tuna eye can be found staring up at you in most Japanese stores for less than a 200 yen. Apparently it tastes a bit like squid and the eyeball comes surrounded by fish fat and severed muscles that are also meant to be quite tasty. To cook it, you simply boil it and then season to taste. There is a stall in the "street market" outside the Tsukiji Market that has this delicacy prepared for customers to enjoy right off the street!

The Tsukiji Market ( Tsukiji shij) is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world and also one of the largest wholesale food markets of any kind.
