This layered pie is topped with spiced walnut crumble to make a perfect pear treat. Buttery, tender caramelised pears are topped with a crunchy-edged oaty crumble, full of gooey melting chocolate chunks and toasted walnut pieces.

PEAR AND WALNUT CRUMBLE

Ingredients

2 medium green pears
½ cup chopped California walnuts
3 tbsps castor sugar
½ tsp cinnamon powder
1 tbsp honey
4-5 biscuits
California walnut kernels for topping
Crumble
¼ cup refined flour (maida)
2 tbsps chopped chilled butter
2 tbsps castor sugar

Method

1. Preheat oven to 180° C.
2. Deseed and chop pears. Transfer in a bowl.
3. Add castor sugar, cinnamon powder and honey and mix well.
4. Grind broken biscuits into fine powder, add to pear mixture and mix. Add chopped California walnuts and mix well.
5. To prepare crumble, take flour in a bowl. Add butter and mix using your fingers till it resembles breadcrumbs. Add castor sugar and mix well.
6. Put pear mixture in an oval glass baking dish and spread the crumble mixture covering it.
7. Put the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
8. Serve warm topped with some California walnut kernels.
