Ponggol Nasi Lemak - Their 1979 Recipe Keeps Customers Coming Back

In 1979, Mr Ang Chye Choon and Mdm Koh Ah Tan began their humble wholesale business providing traditional pre-packed nasi lemak. Its first retail outlet was located at the old Tampines Road, near Punggol.

Fast forward 43 years, the family business has expanded to 3 other outlets at 965 Upper Serangoon Road, 238 Tanjong Katong Road and the new addition is B1-36 Capitol Singapore. Over at the flagship outlet at Jalan Besar, the business takes on a modern, fast food style.

Their all-time favoured, Chineses style Nasi Lemak needs no introduction. The coconut-infused rice is fluffy and fragrant. Pair it with the homemade sambal chilli that gives a kick to each bite. Needless to say, the signature chicken wings and drumsticks are well-battered and deep-fried till perfection. Hear the distinct crunch when sink your teeth into the succulent meat. There are also many other sides to choose from, like stir-fried sambal long beans, brinjal, homemade achar, fried fish, and more.

The family running the Nasi Lemak business is closely-knit, and is related to the other local branches like Fong Seng Nasi Lemak and Bali Nasi Lemak. Ponggol Nasi Lemak has not only preserved the founders' legacy but also expanded the business overseas in Indonesia.
