RUM Boyd Cocktail From 1948 - Cocktails After Dark

RUM Boyd Cocktail From 1948 - Cocktails After Dark
This cocktail is from the David Embury Fine Art of Mixing Drinks published in 1948.
This recipe asks for Raspberry syrup, but lets you know that Grenadine could be substituted... In many of my early American cocktail books, they confuse grenadine (pomegranate) for raspberry syrup. Pomegranate was maybe unknown in 1800s America? Since Grenadine was red, and a little sour maybe they mistook it for raspberry? This is how mistakes, and misinterpretations of ingredients shaped early cocktail formulations.

BOYD
2 parts French Vermouth
2 parts Lime Juice
6 parts White Label Rum
I teaspoonful Raspberry Syrup to each drink
Shake with cracked ice. Grenadine can be substituted for the raspberry syrup.
