Super healthy recipe of dal made using whole red lentils. A must try !

SABUT MASOOR KI DAL

Ingredients

1 cup whole red lentil (sabut masoor dal), soaked for 6-8 hours
Salt to taste
1 inch ginger, finely chopped
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
2 bay leaves
1 medium tomato, finely chopped
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon garam masala powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
2-3 green chillies, slit
Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishing
Steamed Basmati rice for serving

Method

1. Pressure cook dal in 3 cups water alongwith salt and ginger till 3 whistles are released. Open when the pressure is released completely.
2. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds and when it changes colour, add bay leaves and tomatoes and sauté for 1-2 minutes on high heat or till tomato turns soft and pulpy.
3. Add salt, chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and green chillies and sauté for 1 minute.
4. Add dal and 1 cup water, mix and cook on medium heat for 5-8 minutes.
5. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed Basmati rice.
