I got some news, GNB fans. I'm trying out for the next season of the Next Food Network Star and this is the audition video I put together for the powers that be over there.Food was always a big part of my life. Whenever we'd get together, we'd do it over food. And my mother, she would fill the table with her excellent food and lots of it. If we had roasted peppers, everyone had to have enough roasted peppers. If we had pasta, everyone had to have enough of the pasta. Everything had to be in abundance.One of the dishes she made that I loved was spaghetti aglio e olio. Or spaghetti ayool, as we called it in the old neighborhood. It's about as Italian as it gets: a few ingredients all of excellent quality cooked simply to let each shine. In each bite, you get a little bit of the pasta, a little bit of the oil, a little bit of the garlic, a little bit of the spice.
