Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
a pinch of pepper powder
3/4 cup dark molasses (180ml)
3/4 cup hot water (180ml)
1/2 cup butter, (115g )
1/3 cup packed brown sugar (67g)
1 egg
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For Orange Icing
1 cup confectioners’ sugar (120g)
2–3 Tablespoons orange juice
