Spicy idly upma (South Indian style) | Gayathiri's Cookbook

Idli upma is a very simple and delicious dish made with leftover idlis.You have to freeze or refrigerate the idlies for at least 4-6 hours for best results. This Upma can be made in less than 10 minutes with leftover idlies.

Ingredients:
Idly-4
Oil- 2 tbsp
Mustard sedds- 1/2 tsp
Uraddal- 1.5 tsp
Channadal- 1.5 tsp
Salt- As needed
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Idly dosa podi- 2-3 tsp
curry leaves- For seasoning

Directions:
1. Keep the leftover idlies in the refrigerator overnight.When you are ready to make upma, take it out and crumble with your fingers. Keep it aside.
2. Heat 2 tsp oil in a Kadai/Pan. Add mustard seeds to the heated oil. When it crackles, add 2 tsp Uraddal and 2 tsp Channadal. Fry until the dals turn golden brown.
3. Add the crumbled idlies and curry leaves. Sprinkle some water. Close the lid and cook for 1 minute.
4. Open the lid. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, very little salt and 2-3 tbsp idly podi.
5. Add 1 tsp oil or ghee. Saute for 1 minute. Switch off the heat.

Spicy upma is ready!! Serve it with a cup of yogurt.
