Tadka Dal/Dal tadka | Gayathiri's Cookbook

Dal tadka is a popular recipe served in all Indian restaurants. It is very easy to make and can serve it with rice, roti/all bread varieties.It is made with channadal, onion and tomatoes.

Ingredients:
Channadal- 1 cup
Oil- 2-3 tbsp
Bayleaves- 1
Cinnamon stick-1
Jeera- 1 tsp
Garlic cloves- 3
Green chillies- 2
Red chillies-2
Onion-1
Tomatoes-2
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Salt- As needed
Hing- A pinch
Cumin powder- 1 tsp
Coriander powder- 1 tsp
Garam masala powder- 1 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves- For garnishing

Directions:
1. Pressure cook 1 cup Channadal (or moongdal or toordal) for upto 4 whistles with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and 1/4 tsp salt.Keep it aside.

2.Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add 1 bayleaf, 1 cinnamon stick, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp Jeera, Green chillies-2, red chillies-2, and garlic cloves. Saute for a minute.

3. Add 1 cut Onion. Saute until translucent.Then add 2 tomatoes.Cook until it is soft.

4. Add 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder, 3/4 tsp salt, a pinch of hing, 1 tsp Cumin powder,1 tsp coriander powder,1 tsp garam masala powder and 1 tsp red chilli powder.Add 1/2 cup water to cook the masala powder.

5.When the raw smell of the masala powder goes away, add cooked dal.

6. Mix it well. Do not mash the dal. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Tadka dal is ready!!
