This near 100-year-old minced meat noodle was nicknamed "Hunchback Noodle" Authentic Chai Chee BCM

Little did Mr Tan know that he would make a come back after his retirement at the age of 60. His re-emergence into the hawker scene after his retirement was due to a fans love for his Bak Chor Mee.

The humble Bak Chor Mee, or minced meat noodles, has a near 100-year-old history. Yet Mr Tan Poh Chye, the 3rd generation, has kept to its original, classic, deceptively simple version with blanched minced pork, pork dumplings, meat balls, garnished with fried garlic, scallion, and pork lard. The recipe focuses more on the mastery skills of the chef to bring out the flavours of the dish.

The close-to centurial Bak Cbor Mee family business was started by Mr Tan Lian Hock, who came from Zhao An of China in 1923. As a street vendor plying the streets on Chai Chee, Mr Tan carried his 'kitchen' along - the charcoal, bowls, ingredients, bowls, etc. on his shoulders. Those were heavy, and had weighed down on him that he became hunchbacked. His two-basket mobile stall was thus nicknamed 'Hunchback Noodle' ().

You can get a taste of their Bak Chor Mee at Mr Tans sons stall at Kaki Bukit 511 Market & Food Centre as well!
