Ven pongal/ Pongal/ Khara pongal/ Khichdi | Gayathiri's Cookbook

Ven pongal is a popular South Indian food prepared with rice and moongdal. It can be prepared quickly for breakfast or dinner.It’s a very easy and comfort food.

Sambar or Gothsu will be great side dish for pongal.

Ingredients:
Rice- 1/2 cup
Moongdal- 1/2 cup
Salt- 1/2 tsp
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Black pepper- 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Grated ginger-1/4 tsp
Cashews- 7
Curry leaves- For seasoning

Directions:
1. Roast moongdal until golden brown. Add moongdal, salt and 4 cups of water to 1/2 cup rice.
2. Pressure cook this for upto 4 whistles. Once cooked, mash it and keep it aside.
3. Heat 2 tbsp ghee. Add black pepper, cumin seeds, curry leaves, grated ginger and cashews. Roast until cashews turn golden brown.
4. Add fried items to the mashed pongal and mix it well.

Ven pongal is ready!!
