Hi everyone! Today I am at ABC Brickworks Food Centre. This is one of the first hawker centres to be built in Singapore in 1970. ABC Brickworks Food Centre is reportedly named after the former Archipelago Brewery Company and the brickworks factories that used to be in the vicinity.
This hawker centre is located at Blk 6 Jalan Bukit Merah.
There is another food centre Alexandra Village which is diagonally opposite ABC Brickworks.
Fatty Cheong serves very good cha siew in Singapore but it is their thick gravy that wins me over. I ordered the roast duck noodles. Do you see the thick layer of gravy? This reminds me of the roast meat in Hongkong.
The stall owner Jason comes from Penang. This is the assam laksa which cost $3. It is full of penang laksa flavour. If you want to eat authentic Penang food, you should come to this stall.
This is the classic claypot rice cooked using charcoal. The rice is fragant with hua tiao jiu, soy sauce and even put in Chinese sausages and salted fish. You should mix the rice well, then after that scrap up the sides and eat the crunchy rice. There are a number of couples who came here to eat the claypot rice together.
Just look at the size of the chicken chop. This stall is famous for their big portion food. Surprisingly, it is the $2 sausage that I think is the star of the whole dish. It is tender when eaten. If you come to this stall, please remember to order the sausage. I think it taste much better than the main dish.
I waited over 45 minutes for this plate of prawn noodles. Although I list this prawn noodles as the number 1 Must Try Food here, it can be rather controversial. I like the smooth, moist texture of the noodles with the wok hei flavour in it. The sambal chilli also comes with bits of ikan bilis. However not everybody likes the moist or wet texture of the noodles, some people may prefer the dry hokkien mee.
