This ia probably the billionth time that I'm writing the word 'favourite'. How else do i describe 'Semeda Adde' . Mangalores very own steamed rice noodles. Akki shavige is the most famous and most loved food of tuluva's . One can say that is original rice noodles.

Authentic south canara style akki shavige prepared using soaking parboiled rice and white rice. It can also be prepared with rice flour nowadays which is cheat version to this authentic recipe.

Akki shavige known with different name across South India. While there are several variations to this recipe. I have followed the authentic mangalore style version.

Akki shavige traditionally prepared using 'shavige mane'. Making shavige with using this tool requires 3 people to maneuver. One who puts the freshly steamed lumps of dough into the cylinder (almost like a copper lota) with fine slots at the bottom and the other person who helps compress the dough by turning a handle and otherone collectoing rice noodles coming out through fine slots at the bottom. tough job I must say. But nowadays usually make it using chakkuli press.

There are too many serving options for akki shavige . Most popular way of eating with chicken gravy (which are usually of thinner consistency than regular gravies). If you love sweet taste , then sweetened coconut milk or banana rasayana would be the best one to pair.
