The Making of a Human Castle in Barcelona's Ciutadela Park! Devour Barcelona

Ever seen a "castell" go up? A castell is a Catalan human castle. The tradition of making human castles in Catalonia goes back about 200 years, and is a great symbol of the pride that permeates this region of Spain. Like a competitive sport, "castellers," or human castle makers, are revered for their strength, agility and bravery. Whether it be a holiday, special occasion or competition, you can see human castles throughout the year in Barcelona and all of Catalonia.

The people performing in this video are actually a variant of castellers called "falcons." Though they share some similarities with castellers, differences include attire, choreography and the amount of people involved in making the human acrobatic structure.
