This cake is traditionally made in Greece to honour Saint Fanourios, celebrated on August 27, hence its name Fanouropita (or Phanouropita). Since St. Fanourios is considered the patron of lost things, the cake is usually prepared at home with the belief that it will help find a "lost object or person" literally or metaphorically.
A great fluffy cake, it doesn't crumble and it's not too sweet, but it's a bit spicy containing cinnamon, nuts & fruits. It's flavoured with sweet wine and orange juice which makes it moist but not muddy. Why not give it a go?
Suitable for fasting and vegans.
